A cyanido-bridged Fe-II-Nb-IV spin-crossover complex, [Fe-II(dpds)(2)](2)[Nb-IV(CN)(8)]<middle dot>6H(2)O (dpds = 4,4 '-dipyridyldisulfide), is synthesized with a three-dimensional coordination network. The network has cyanido bridges to connect the Fe-II and Nb-IV sites and dpds as an additional ligand to crosslink the Fe-II sites. [Fe-II(dpds)(2)](2)[Nb-IV(CN)(8)]<middle dot>6H(2)O exhibits a gradual and incomplete spin crossover in which 22% of the high-spin Fe-II sites change to low-spin Fe-II sites as the temperature decreases. The calculation indicates that the spin transition occurs sparsely, rather than forming low spin site domains.
