摘要：
Viral strategies to lyse host microbes can sometimes involve just a single gene, although the mechanism of action can be hard to discern. In Science, Orta et al. present structures of a protein complex in which protein E of bacteriophage phi X174 functions to inhibit host peptidoglycan synthesis, thereby inducing lysis.
