Heart failure, at the heart of the technological revolution

In France, heart failure leads to 160,000 hospitalizations and 70,200 deaths every year. In its final stage, when death is imminent and all drug therapies have failed, it becomes urgently necessary to compensate for the heart's failure. The first response may be physiological: replacing the worn-out organ with a healthy one. If this is unthinkable, the second response can only be technological: transferring responsibility for efficient blood circulation to an implantable medical device that assists or even replaces the heart.
