Protection of Personal Data in Law Activities: An Examination in the Light of European Union Europol Regulation No. 2016/794 and Law Enforcement- Criminal Justice Directive No. 2016/680

Cooperation between Turkiye and Europol has been carried out at the strategic level for nearly two decades. In the annual reports of the EU Commission, it is stated that improvements should be made regarding the protection of personal data in law enforcement activities. The aim of this study is to examine the provisions of the Europol Regulation No. 2016/794 and Law Enforcement-Criminal Justice Directive No. 2016/680 to reveal the main similarities and differences between the provisions of Personal Data Protection Law(PDPL) No. 6698 on law enforcement activities. As a result, it is thought that new regulations may enter into force in order to harmonize with EU regulations.
