摘要：

This article examines the rhetorical functions of analogy in the Nueva filosofia de la naturaleza del hombre / New Philosophy of Human Nature (1587), by either Oliva or Miguel Sabuco. The analysis will be focused on a long-standing analogy rooted in early Greek thought, which serves Sabuco to display a medical theory challenging some of the axioms of galenism: the comparison of the human being with an upside-down tree.
