CHANGES IN THE LANDSCAPE AS A CONSEQUENCE OF A CLIMATE EPISODE, IN THE CONTEXT OF THE LITTLE ICE AGE (16th-17th CENTURIES), IN THE PARISH OF SAN ANDReS DE O HiO (CANGAS, PONTEVEDRA)

To reconstruct the climate during the Little Ice Age, it is necessary to resort to various scien-tific fields. One of them is the use of documentary sources, deposited in Historical Archives. The abundance of religious and secular institutions during this period and the need to control their assets, meant that their accumulated data was homogeneous, almost statistical. Extraor-dinary hydrometeorological phenomena were recorded in detail due to the impact they had on society. The documentation examined in the National Historical Archive and Historical Ar-chive of the University of Santiago de Compostela reveals the existence of a climatic episode with negative effects on the social structure of a small population in Barra beach (Cangas, Pontevedra), which is particularly interesting as it includes the description of the event and its consequences, an episode that is cited for the first time in Galicia.
