Transverse testicular ectopia associated with inguinal hernia: Case report

Transverse testicular ectopia is a very rare congenital anomaly in which both testicles are located in a single hemi-scrotum. Abnormal placement of the testis increases the risks of testicular torsion, infertility and testicular cancer due to vascular injury or hot environment. An undescended testis is present when the testicles do not descend completely into the scrotum, or an ectopic testis is present when it deviates from the expected descent route during early development. However, there is also sexual development disorder in transverse testicular ectopia. In here, a 1-year-old boy who was diagnosed with undescended testis and transverse testicular ectopia during the hernia repair were presented in order to draw attention to the possibility of transverse testicular ectopia in children with unilateral undescended testis and contralateral inguinal hernia.
