摘要
Due to the impact suffered in terms of loss of human lives, Latin America is the region of the world most affected by the Covid-19 Pandemic. This is demonstrated from the analysis, in a global context, of indicators such as: number of deaths from Covid-19, mortality rates and excess mortality. It is also argued that in the region, and particularly in some of its countries, there is a confluence of factors associated with the severity of the pandemic: poverty and social inequality, labor informality, disorderly urbanization with non-existent or deficient services, chaotic and saturated transport and mobility systems, and weak health institutions. Government action or inaction, as well as political situations, also had an important impact. Vulnerability defines broad sectors of Latin America population, with governments that are weak, conflicted and unable to respond to crises.
