Vapor-Liquid Equilibrium Phase Behavior of Binary Systems of Carbon Dioxide with Eugenol or Guaiacol

The vapor-liquid equilibrium (VLE) phase boundary data for the binary systems consisting of carbon dioxide + eugenol and carbon dioxide + guaiacol were determined experimentally in the temperature range from 313.15 to 373.15 K and at pressures up to 24 MPa. The phase transition over the entire composition range was observed by using a variable-volume and visual phase equilibrium analyzer. From the VLE phase boundary data, K-values and critical points for VLE have been estimated. The present study involved the correlation of the recently obtained VLE data with two equations of state, namely, the Soave-Redlich-Kwong and the Peng-Robinson equations. These equations were modified to incorporate the two-parameter van der Waals one-fluid mixing rule. Overall, the average absolute pressure deviations are lower than 3%.
