With more than one billion Catholics around the planet, the Roman Catholic Church guides its followers on how they should act regarding themselves and life in society. This guidance covers all areas of life, including sports. A phenomenon of increasing proportions in contemporary times, sport had not yet been addressed by the Church in a document that would clearly guide Catholics in the moral and spiritual issues of the sports universe, a situation that was reversed in 2018, with the publication of the text "Give the best of yourself" by the Dicastery for the Laity, the Family and Life. This document deals with the Church's conception of sport, recognizes its pastoral function, promotion of health, education, among other topics. In this research, we present the main positions of the Church on the contemporary themes of sport, with the intention of establishing a possible Catholic ethic of sport, and how it can influence the faithful to rethink and readjust themselves before the sports universe. It was demonstrated, by the arguments presented on the document, a Church that is positioned in defense of a sport at the service of the human being. In addition, it sees in sport, in its different manifestations, a space with rich possibilities for pastoral action.
