摘要
Nanotechnology has proved its tremendous worth in the field of drug delivery and targeting. Nano formulations have improved the safety and efficacy of various conventional drugs. Brain targeting is one such domain that has been studied using nanotechnology for the treatment of various Central Nervous System Disorders. However, when approached through oral or intravenous route of drug administration brain targeting is limited due to the presence of physiological barriers such as Blood Brain Barrier. The Intranasal (IN) route has been studied widely as it has the potential to bypass the existing brain barriers and delivers the drug to different areas of the brain through the olfactory or trigeminal pathway. We have discussed nanotechnology-based strategies to deliver drugs to the brain. Surface modification of nanocarriers through different approaches has also been discussed under different heads. Future perspectives and market trends for intranasal drug delivery and products associated with it have also been enlightened.
