Supranational People and People of Being: Political Encounters and Disagreements in the Philosophies of Jaspers and Heidegger

The encounter between Heidegger and Jaspers soon turned into a deep friendship. It is due to this closeness that their thoughts share in many cases common starting points, but also radical divergences. It is precisely around the phenomenon of the people that this paradoxical relationship becomes clearer. The supranational people and the people of being are, as it I argue in this paper, two irreconcilable senses of the understanding of the community.
