On Demand Random Access Design for Beyond 5G and 6G High Frequency Wireless Communications

摘要
In mobile communication networks, random access is used for uplink timing synchronization. At higher carrier frequencies, resource overhead of the random access increases due to longer preamble length and larger number of beam directions. In this paper, we investigate the overhead of random access protocol in B5G mobile communication networks operating at higher frequencies. We propose a novel On Demand Random Access Protocol (OD-RAP) design to reduce the random access resource overhead. The evaluation shows that the proposed OD-RAP design reduces random access resource overhead by more than 50% compared with the state of art random access protocol for 5G systems based on 3GPP New Radio (NR) standards.
