Prevalence of Internet Addiction Disorder among Iraqi medical populations: A Cross Sectional Study

摘要
Internet addiction is characterized by an increase in spending time on the Internet that in-terferes with work performance with withdrawal from other enjoyable activities. The objective was to determine the prevalence of internet addiction among Iraqi medical populations and the associated fac-tors. A cross sectional study was conducted on 1545 medical persons. An online questionnaire was used for data collection which includes three parts (demographic data, pattern of using internet, and Internet Addiction score). Statistical analysis of data was carried out. Results: According to the results of Young internet Addiction Test score, 42.9%of the participants were mild internet addicting according to Young internet Addiction score, and only 1% of them were severe. High prevalence of internet addiction was observed among medical population. Highest prevalence was in medical students and mostly they use it for entertainment. Lowest prevalence was found in older age groups. High prevalence of internet addic-tion among medical population with highest prevalence in medical students. Lowest prevalence was found in older age groups.
