In the 2000s, in a context of endemic poverty in Burkina Faso, various civil society actors mobilized around the concept of social and solidarity economy (SSE) in which they emplace their practices targeting poverty. In this article, based on data from a qualitative survey conducted among SSE organizations, we seek to understand how their practices contribute to fight against poverty: are they only aiming to resolve the individual consequences of poverty or to set in motion a collective dynamic of social transformation? While these organizations promote the economic empowerment of individuals, the scope of social transformation of their practices remains very contrasted because of various parameters related to organizational empowerment (type of organization, governance, type of activities, resources, etc.).
