摘要
There is an increasing number of births to women with congenital heart disease (CHD). These births occur with minimal maternal mortality especially, in tertiary care centers with access to specialized and advanced obstetrical care provided by an inter -professional team. Morbidity however, remains relatively high especially in the women with severe CHD. It is therefore crucial that all clinicians involved in caring for these patients recognize the factors that contribute to this relatively high maternal and newborn morbidity and, what systemic changes can be made to manage this risk. Preconception counselling, prenatal, intrapartum and postpartum management should be coordinated by a multidisciplinary group with expertise in managing this unique group of patients.
