摘要：

The Privilegio de los votos is a charter forged in Santiago in the mid-twelfth century that aimed to raise income for the cathedral canons of Compostela. Here we study it mainly as a way of understanding the past of the monarchy and the kingdom and of re-writing history accordingly. We also analyse its interest in promoting a via regia, being a short speculum principis. The Privilegio highlights the king as a warlord against the useless kings that the charter places in the past, and insists on his legislative capacity, thus revealing the legal training of its author. This discourse unfolds within the confines of medieval rhetoric.
