Globally, roughly 2.2bn people lack access to safe drinking water. The problem is projected to get worse, as climate change disrupts weather patterns. As drinking water is prioritised, less will become available for crops and livestock, reducing global food production. It’s likely people living in the most affected areas will be forced to move; the UN forecasts that 700m people are at risk of being displaced due to water scarcity by 2030.
