摘要
Pressurized hot water extraction (PHWE) is a sustainable technique that represents an alternative to conventional extraction methods using organic solvents. It enables the recovery of bioactive compounds, such as phenolic compounds, proteins, and polysaccharides, among others, from different natural sources. Hence, the primary objective of this review is to offer a brief overview on the PHWE fundamentals, providing an up-to-date account of its applications in the recovery of bioactive compounds from 2019 to present. This review builds upon the previous works (Plaza and Turner (Trends in Analytical Chemistry 71 (2015) 39-57) and Plaza and Marina (Trends in Analytical Chemistry 116 (2019) 236-247)). Additionally, the review highlights the latest trends in PHWE, including its combination with other advanced extraction techniques as well as the use of natural deep eutectic solvents as modifiers, to enhance extraction yields. These advances aim to improve the efficiency and versatility of PHWE as an extraction technique.
