French translation of Chinese sociology works between 1949 and 2020 Assessment and lessons

With the re-emergence of China on the international scene, the dissemination of its modern cultural production is becoming a topical issue, especially in the West where it is probably least known. This article examines the French translation of Chinese sociological works between 1949 and 2020 to observe its overall situation and the selection criteria established by French publishers. We find that such translations have progressed extremely slowly. The few works that have managed to enter the French market generally reconcile the universal and the particular. Is especially appreciated the production of the first half of the 20th century, which develops original theories from a comparative perspective.
