Risk management in the public sector

Risks interfere at all levels of business activities and, if not managed correctly, could result in financial losses, deterioration of image and reputation or trigger a crisis. Managing these risks denotes the continuous use of policies, procedures and management practices for communication activities, consultations, establishing the context, and in the identification, analysis, evaluation, treatment, monitoring and review of risks. This article sought to answer the following question: What is the importance of risk management for the effectiveness of public administration? Its general objective is to analyze the importance of risk management for the effectiveness of public administration and as specific to identify the main risk factors used in public management projects; analyze the effectiveness of risk management in public administration and discuss the importance of effective risk management with public managers. As a methodology, the article opted for quantitative nature, for purposes of being descriptive and for means of using the bibliography. Among the authors used in this work we can mention avila (2013), Souza (2019), Santos (2020). At the end of the research, we concluded that the public sector, both at the municipal, state and federal levels, should carry out a more in-depth and systematic inclusion of risk management through a culture change with regard to the effective and efficient delivery of its services to society.
