The scourge of child labor in Latin America and the Caribbean The Brazilian case

The present paper aims to analyze the scourge of child labour in Brazil, involving the violation of children's rights by the state. The focus of this study is also framed in the effectiveness of public social policies at eradicating child exploitation and the relationship between the rights to education and citizenship building. In this context, we will try to inquire about the socio demographic characteristics of child labour, describing its different types which characterize the region, describe and analyze the different social policies faced by the Brazilian government to eradicate child labour-from 1988 to nowadays, with the start of the FIFA World Cup 2014-and the role encouraged by social organizations and movements, with their respective methods of nonviolent struggle to eradicate this problem.
