"TO WALK ON THE VERY EDGE OF THE CENSORSHIP CLIFF ..." A. V. AMFITEATROV IN THE NEWSPAPER RUSSKAIA VOLIA (A. V. AMFITEATROV'S LETTER TO M. M. GAKKEBUSH (GORELOV), SEPTEMBER 27, 1916)

The work is devoted to a bright stage in the biography of the famous journalist and publicist A. V. Amfiteatrov - the period of co-editing (together with M. Gakkebush (Gorelov) and L. Andreev) from mid-December 1916 of the newly founded newspaper Russkaia Volia. Involving the archival data, the article analyzes the stage of preparing the newspaper for publication, the process of attracting new employees, the development of an ideological platform; the role of Amfiteatrov in these processes is traced; his publications and their reception by contemporaries are considered. Amfiteatrov's letter to M. M. Gakkebush is published in the appendix to the article, outlining his views on the future edition.
