Optimal Frequency for Optimal Performance and Efficiency of a Single-Phase Wireless Power Transmission System

Wireless Power Transmission (WPT) systems have been shown to have multiple applications in distributing power to electronic devices. These systems have difficulties when distributing power over long distances, which is the result of non-ideal conditions of conductors used for the coils. This paper demonstrates the analysis and design of a WPT system to determine the optimal frequency implemented to achieve the maximum Quality Factor (Q-factor), and efficiency with three different coil designs, a circular coil with a diameter of 4 inches, and rectangular coils, one with side lengths of 2 inches, and one with 4 inches. The results found that for conductors with an inner diameter of 0.09 inches, the optimal frequency was found and calculated to be about 50 kHz, and the rectangular coil with side lengths of 4 inches achieved an efficiency of 30.81% for the simulation, and 19.30% for the hardware implementation with a Q-factor of 1,164.
