Hypervalent iodine catalysis is one of the fast growing research areas of hypervalent iodine chemistry. In recent years, the attention of several hypervalent iodine chemists has moved toward the findings of new chiral hypervalent iodine catalysts and their application in developing stereoselective reaction with high enantiomeric excess. Various new chiral hypervalent iodine catalysts have been discovered and they have been employed to achieve high enantiomeric excess in organic transformations under mild reaction conditions. The present review summarizes several enantioselective transformations such as dearomatization, functionalization of alkenes, amination, alpha-functionalization of ketones, and rearrangement reactions using catalytic amounts of structurally diverse chiral iodoarenes as precatalysts.
