Role of Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy in Hepatocellular Carcinoma

SBRT has emerged as an effective treatment option for HCC in both early and late stages of the disease. It has traditionally been used as a last-line therapy in patients who are ineligible for surgical resection or have already undergone other LRTs. How-ever, recent studies have shown that SBRT can be an effective first-line treatment for HCC.In addition, SBRT can be used in combination with other treatment techniques such as TACE or RFA to improve treatment outcomes and achieve higher rates of complete response. Furthermore, SBRT has been shown to be comparable or even superior to other LRTs in terms of overall survival rates and response rates, allowing for bridging and downstaging of tumors for liver transplant.Overall, SBRT has emerged as an important treatment option for HCC, particularly for patients who are not surgical candidates or who have failed other LRTs. It has shown promising results both as a standalone treatment and in combination with other techniques, and future research is likely to further define its role in the management of HCC.
