摘要
The paper industries are one of the most polluting in the world due to its considerable environmental impact due to its production of waste paper sludge (WPS). The disposal practices pose extremely hazardous and a great concerned for the environment. The main objective of this research study was to determine the effectiveness of carbon mineral adsorbent i.e., granular activated carbon and WPS as an alternate adsorbent to the partial replacement of commercial adsorbent for the removal of pollutants from leachate. Both carbon mineral adsorbent was combined with different mixing ratios. The batch adsorption experiment was conducted in this study with 57 g/100 mL adsorbent dosage, 200-rpm shaken speed, pH-7, and 120-min contact time. The experimental finding results described best removal efficiency of both pollutants were achieved at 57 g/mL, 200 rpm, 120 min and pH 7. The isotherm adsorption experimental finding results was describing that the Langmuir model was well suited to the Freundlich model based on the coefficient of determination (R-2). The R-2 and adsorption capacity obtained for the Langmuir model for COD were 0.9976 and 38.26 mgg(-1) and NH3-N were 0.9962 and 24.60 mgg(-1). The low coefficient of determination (R-2) obtained for the first pseudo-order indicates that NH3-N and COD adsorption does not follow the reactions of the models. The value of R-2 for the linear plot of the second pseudo-order is seen to be close to 1 for both of these parameters for COD was 0.9995 and NH3-N was 0.9979.
