摘要
In natural rivers an accurate estimation of hydrodynamic parameters, such as water surface elevation, velocity distribution and flow regime conditions is essential for an effective flood prevention management methodology. In the current research work the computational fluid dynamics Flow-3D finite-volume model is applied in order to numerically simulate free-surface flow variation through a converging open channel. The three-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations are numerically solved for laminar flow conditions. A supercritical flow regime and a mixed flow regime simulation are applied in a converging part of a channel and variation of different hydraulics parameters is reported. For each test case, computed free-surface flow results are satisfactorily compared with available experimental measurements providing an effective numerical procedure for river ecosystem management.
