The article outlines the mechanisms of the academic approach to the complex and seemingly chaotic corpus of textual material related to Vyach. Ivanov's article "The Inspector General by Gogol and the Comedy by Aristophanes": systematization, reading, analysis and publication (decoding) of the writer's draft autographs. The article is thus important not only for further studies of the manuscript legacy of Vyach. Ivanov, but also for the other textual practices.
