摘要
The article focuses on the Montenegrin origin of one of the branches of the pedigree of E. Malaniuk - the most prominent writer of the Ukrainian emigration, whose work was primarily aimed at restoring the national status of Ukraine. With the help of biographical, cultural-historical, analytical methods and methods of hermeneutics, the early works of the writer are analyzed, in which there are medieval motifs, in particular the motives of Western European chivalry. It is noted that they originated in the work of E. Malaniuk not only as a result of his romantic thinking or under the influence of individual thinkers, but could have a very real basis related to the Montenegrin origin of the writer's family, who lived in Montenegro in medieval times. Quite scant information is given about the Montenegrin family of J. Stoyanov, who was E. Malanyuk's maternal grandfather. In particular, J. Stoyanov could influence not only the choice of grandson to become a professional soldier, but also the heraldic symbols of his noble family (especially the medieval shield depicted on the coat of arms) could interest E. Malaniuk as a medieval theme in general and his grandson's interest in national-liberation struggle of Montenegrins, in particular directed against the Ottoman Empire. Also on the example of the historical novel "Black Council" by P. Kulish illustrates the interest of Ukrainians in the then mysterious for them Montenegro. First of all, to the heroic struggle of her people for national independence, as well as to such a custom as - otmica, associated with the abduction of the bride. This ancient Montenegrin custom is not only depicted in P. Kulish's novel, but was also realized in the life of E. Malanyuk's future father, who kidnapped J. Stoyanov's daughter.
