摘要
This study explores how elementary school principals and assistant principals (APs) perceive the role of the AP. Results of in-depth semi-structured interviews revealed that no clear role description exists but, rather, there are a variety of patterns that define the AP position. In the selection process, principals focus on four elements: common language, personal connection, trust, and professionalism. The work patterns demonstrated a mix of formal responsibilities and spontaneous tasks, frequent meetings, and a multitude of unstructured times. Relationship patterns involve the professional hierarchy and the efforts to expand partnerships and personal relationships including formal, semi-formal, and close relationships.
