摘要
The number of older people is increasing globally, and the rate of increase is accelerating. This increase in longevity is accompanied by a rise in the prevalence of common diseases and issues, necessitating appropriate and comprehensive management by health and social care systems. This review emphasizes the importance of strengthening home care for older people as an integral part of primary health care. An extensive literature review was conducted, including scientific articles from the last decade and using the keywords "older people," "global aging," and "home care" in the electronic databases PubMed, Google Scholar, and Elsevier in both Greek and English. Through this review, the importance and necessity of transforming home care for older people internationally was highlighted and underlined. Under the framework of human rights and the right to health, the desire of older people to age at home and the great need to decongest secondary hospital and post-hospital care for older healthcare users, dictate that the recommendations of the global consultations on aging should be put into practice.
