Antibacterial Borosilicate Glass and Glass Ceramic Materials Doped with ZnO for Usage in the Pharmaceutical Industry

摘要
The aim of this studyis producing and characterizing borosilicateglass and glass ceramic materials with enhanced antibacterial propertiesby using the conventional melting method. First of all, borosilicateglass doped with ZnO was obtained and after that the crystallizationtemperature was detected by using differential thermal analysis forthe production of borosilicate glass ceramic doped with ZnO. The antibacterialand leaching tests showed that the glass and glass ceramic doped with5% ZnO were suitable samples according to test results. Physical,thermal, and mechanical properties of the glass and glass ceramicdoped with 5% ZnO were also determined. Overall results indicatedthat the obtained antibacterial borosilicate glass could be a remarkableproduct for the pharmaceutical industry, especially for usage in drugpackaging.
