Sociability in public spaces. An analysis based on the urban public scenes of the squares of the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro

The article aims to analyze the sociability scenarios that occur in the squares of the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro. The originality of this analysis lies in considering two elements present in geographical observation, composition and exhibition. The method is based on field work, direct observation and the analysis of photographic records. The results reveal interesting differences in the use and quality of these public spaces; and the diversity of urban scenes according to design, social and functional context of its location. Therefore, the observation and understanding of what happens in the squares constitutes an important element in the communication of contents that pass through the forms of social interaction experienced and exposed in the daily scenes of these public spaces of leisure, recreation and encounter.
