This paper briefly reviews the effects to date of the US model of cannabis legalization - a for profit model based on that of alcohol. The US model has substantially reduced the cost of cannabis, increased its availability and potency, and increased the prevalence of regular use among adult users. The paper makes some predictions about the likely impacts of adopting this model in other nations that are contem-plating the legalization of adult cannabis use.
