Ⅰ. INTRODUCTION The X-ray spatial resolution Ris a very important parameter for quantitative electron probe microanalysis (EPMA). Reed, Duncumb and Castaing et al. have proposed their empirical formulae to calculate R. However there exist obvious discrepancies among their respective formulae, and no formula hastakenaccount of the atomic number Z, that is to say, the effect of variation in electron scattering
