Sherwood Anderson is a significant writer in modern American literature. His masterpiece Winesburg, Ohio brings himgreat reputation. Though Criticism on it is numerous,these vivid grotesques in the book are still worth studying and exploring evenin modern times. The themes of initiation, that is the protagonist George Willard’s growing up progress arise readers’ attention.His progress of artistic pursuit, improvement of love attitude and realization of death reflects George’s gradual maturation.
