SYNOVECTOMY IN THE TREATMENT OF TUBERCULOSIS OF THE KNEE JOINT

1.This paper reports 23 cases oftuberculosis of the knee joint treated bysynovectomy and curettage of the bonylesion.The long-term end results arepresented.2.Synovectomy performed inselected cases gave a cure rate of 91%.3.After synovectomy,the rangeof the knee joint movement in childrenhad great tendency to increase,whilein adult patients,the range usually de-creased,and in some cases the kneejoint became stiff.4.There was no definite relation-ship between recovery of the movementand either the severity of the jointlesion or the duration of postoperativeimmobilization.
