摘要
With the original intention to discover a hypothetical planet inside the orbit of Mercury, Schwabe accidently found the 11-year solar cycle of sunspots, which are the manifestation of strong magnetic field. The solar cycle is a result of a competition between amplification and dissipation of magnetic field. The amplification is due to the differential rotation and turbulence in the convection zone.
