Over the past centuries,poets and translators have been continuously committing themselves to the translations of Chi-nese classical poetry,hoping to show the magnificent Chinese cultural and literary heritage to the world.Thanks to the varioustranslation theories and strategies from the translation studies completed by the previous scholars,which now available for the au-thor of the present thesis,providing the author much room and different perspectives in the research of this field.Ezra Pound andXu Yuanzhong,who are from different cultural backgrounds,are quite worth arousing people’s attention.Much comment on Xu’sand Pound’s translation theories and their practices as well as their achievement in Chinese classical poetry translation has beenmade among scholars.Nevertheless,the two marvelous translators differ a lot in their choices of translation strategies.In consider-ation the issues mentioned above,the author decides to employ two distinctive translation strategies,i.e.,domesticating translationand foreignizing translation,to conduct a comparative research on the basis of analysis of Ezra Pound’s and Xu Yuanzhong’s differ-ent Chinese classical poetry translation versions,thus expecting to figure out how their different translation motivations are relatedto their selection of translation strategies.
