The Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center at the Sun Yat-Sen University of Medical Sciences (SUMS) is the first new model ophthalmological center which combines ophthalmological education, clinics, research and the prevention of blindness in China (Fig. 1). The Center is located at Guangzhou, a famous city in southern China.
