Cultural Awareness and EFL Teaching

Over the years I have gradually come to realize that poor handling ofthe relationship of language and cultures on the part of the teacher mightbe one of the causes of the students’cultural mistakes.Teachers may focuson linguistic forms and not remember the people who use the forms in or-dinary communication.Another cause might be the students’(and teache-rs’)unfamiliarity with the differences between the Chinese and Englishlanguages and their respective cultures.As a result,many a student withgood grades in school in China performs poorly in social situation.
