This paper, based on recent overseas and home research findings and the author’s teaching experiences, discusses the close relationship between culture background knowledge and English teaching,analysesthe possible reasons for students’ deficiency of culture background Knowledge,especiallyproposes several practical approaches ofEnglish teachingto helpEnglish teachers developstudents’culture background knowledge so astofoster students’cultural competence and then improve the results of English teaching.
