Movies play an important role in showing regional culture. This thesis analyzes similar and different cultures in two movies. Similarities are in marriage and traditions while differences are in ideology, food culture and lifestyle. Happiness and The Pursuit of Happyness are adapted by true men’s stories in real places, one for Xi’an, Shaanxi province and the other for San Francisco, America. Protagonists are common people, representing China and America’s cultural orientations and values. These contrastive aspects make people have a better understanding towards regional cultures.
