THE HITTITES AND THEIR HISTORY

When we speak of the history of the Hittites, we refer to the relatively brief existence of a Hittite kingdom from about 1800 to 1180 B.C. in Central Anatolia, the heart of modern Turkey. The Hittites have been known through their own cuneiform texts only since 1917, when the Hittite language, which belongs to the Indo-European language family, was deciphered by B. Hrozny.
