It is not common for monilia,or yeast infection of the vulva andvagina,to cause enough symptoms to make patients seek treatment. Most of the gynecological text-books give either very little or no spaceto the subject.Authors often consider that the occurrence of yeast celIsin the vagina is of no clinical importance. In practice here in Peiping, the writers have only seen three severe cases in the last three years.Monilia or yeast-like fungus has however been frequently isolated fromthe vulva, and we have no doubt that such infection is much moreprevalent than it is thought to be,and nearly all the mild cases havebeen overlooked. The treatment sometimes proves to be very tedious.
