A STUDY OF SOME VARIATIONAL PRINCIPLES IN THE THEORY OF PLASTICITY

Hill proposed the well-known maximum plastic work principle for certain boundary-value problems in the theory of plasticity. At the same time, Markov proposed a theorem for nonhardening materials. At the first glance Markov’s theorem appears to have no obvious connection with Hill’s maximum work principle. However, for work-hardening materials, the theorems may be expressed in a certain form such that the connection between them becomes apparent.
