The Pragmatic Perspective of Jef Verschueren——A Comment on Understanding Pragmatics

This paper explains the pragmatic perspective in modern pragmatics by commenting on Verschueren’s book UnderstandingPragmatics.At the beginning,historical development is given as necessary background information.Then a brief introduction about thebook is given to illustrate the author’s perspective in pragmatics.Particularly,a discussion about the essence of the book is made by ex-plaining Verschueren’s opinion:A pragmatic perspective is interdisciplinary.Finally,the author makes a comment on Verschueren’sbook and his theory.
