As early as 1781 Immanuel Kant(Kant 1781/1963)claimed that new information,new concepts,new ideas can have meaning only when they can be related to something thatthe individual already knows.However,L2 reading had been regarded as a language—baseddecoding skill until the late 1960′s when the psycholinguistic perspective of L1 reading cameto the fore.Since the 1970′s,L2 reading theory and research has been very much under theinflucnce of Goodman′s psycholinguistic model of reading(1967).Based on this model,
