China’s Ministry of Industry and InformationTechnology (MIIT) is encouragingthe application and promotion of cleanerproduction technology to enhance thenation’s cleaner production overall level.It also sets the energy conservation andemissions reduction goals for key sectorsof China’s chemical industry.PVC sectorBy 2012, the polyvinyl chloride (PVC)sector should use low-mercury catalystin 50% of its calcium carbide-processPVC capacity, reduce the use of mercuryby 208 tons per year, and recoverall waste mercury catalyst.
